July 4 2k15 Meeting Reflection

Which I liked the most?

It was the 4th of July. It was Saturday which supposedly a no class day for us and also a happy 4th day of July for us but all of a sudden we suddenly have a makeup class for our technopreneurship course. No more happy 4th day of July, I guess. But the tables have turned when this day becomes very inspiring when the class has started.

As Sir Gamboa entered the room, he said out of the blue that we will have a quiz. Everyone was in a shock mode, especially us the so called “virgins”. We do not know what to answer or what will be the quiz is all about. So everyone gets panicked and asked those who have the papers to lend them some. Including me. But there were twists, to each paper that will be given to the one who asks should pay twenty pesos. It was business immediately. He even let us look for a blue ink ball pen and said that each who will borrow the pen must pay fifty pesos. But, there was insufficient supply of the blue ink ball pen so he let us used the black ink ball pen instead. I saved fifty pesos, I told myself.  He then instructed us to put our last name on the bottom left of the paper, a comma on the middle top, and our first name on the bottom right of the paper. I got confused about the instructions so I have put them in different orders. I got wrong thrice so that means that I asked for papers thrice and that means I have and must pay the owner thrice. Bye, sixty pesos, I thought!

Sir Gamboa then showed a slide where there were nine black dots. He told us to copy those nine dots on our paper placing them in the middle of the paper. Then, he instructed us what to do with those. The dots were arranged 3x3 in columns and rows.  I thought that we will be connecting those nine dots as what I have been doing whenever I saw some dots randomly. I thought of this activity as a very simple one. I started on connecting the dots but I did not put some lines on the though. I thought of connecting them in my mind. But it was different, he instructed us that we should connect the dots with only four strokes and lifting of the pen is prohibited. The activity does ring a bell to me. I do not know when and how but I think I have encountered this kind of activity way back elementary or high school days. Then, I remembered it. And I have answered it.

Few moments passed, Sir Randy asked some of us to answer the activity. There were three who tried to answer it. The first and the second one did not get the right answer. The third one got the correct answer. The activity has a lesson though. It says that you have to think outside the. Our facilitator, explained the meaning of the activity and the lessons. He said that we were contained inside the box and that we failed to see that there are solutions beyond the box. It was very true that we were really contained and imprisoned thinking that the answer to the activity is only on the corners of the nine dots. The instruction was only to connect the nine dots with only four strokes without lifting our pens; he did not say that we should only connect the dots inside the box nor he did not say that connecting the dots outside the box is prohibited. That is cue that I think we never sought for any other way to find solutions in the activity. I think that we got jitters of answering the activity and we were subconsciously focused on the box and never did realize the instructions clearly. Though, I have answered the activity correctly, I got hit on what Our facilitator has said towards us. His message was not only for those who have not get the right answer but to all of us who have participated in the activity. You should not limit yourself to your self-found resources but you have to search for more than that. The message of the activity is not to depend on the existing solutions, we must found another one that is unique and has easier features so that it can help to make life easier. Instead of just using the existing solutions, why not find alternatives or much better solutions and explore things beyond our limitations until we satisfy ourselves with the solutions that can solve our problems. The lesson in this activity is indeed worthy to apply in ourselves, in myself. The lesson that I learned in that activity is to look beyond what you can see. This made me realized of what kind of person I am now. Before I did used to think that I should look beyond what I can see but as time goes by that faded in my mind. Since I entered college I never thought of that and started seeing thinks just the way they are. Now I realized that all those machine problems and projects that I had in the past were useless. I never did learn from those things. I just looked at them as an academic requirement that I need to pass the subject.  I forgot what learning meant for me. I forgot that we should think beyond the simple meaning of a certain thing. Now I’m just studying to graduate and I just view things as ease. A mindset that I used to hate in the past. I mindset which I did not realized that I am having all along. Now that I realized these things, I would be switching my perspective and change the way I view things. Just like what Our facilitator said we can never learn anything from him. He would never teach us anything and we cannot learn any lessons about theories, programming languages, and writing programs. In contrast to what he has said, I would like to say that I have learned a thing from him. Just by listening to him, you can learn not that academic related learning but life lessons. Life lessons that will help us improve to who we are right now or even make us the better version of us from now on.

The activity was really nice.  It gave me a great lesson in life. It showed me a new perspective in viewing things. Though that was just only a ten minute activity, it has given a new life lesson that I would like to bring for the rest of my life.

The activity was just the introduction to our subject, Technopreneurship. Our facilitator introduced what is really technopreneurship, how it is different from entrepreneurship, how did technopreneurship started, how technopreneurship contributed to Davao City.  Our facilitator taught us the meaning of technopreneurship, how is it way far from entrepreneurship. Well, as what I have remembered the word Technopreneurship was derived from the words technology and entrepreneurship. The two differs on the where it is furnished. Technopreneurship is furnished on the technological side mixed with the business and its market. Aside from selling innovative products, they sell their ideas to whoever badly need their ideas in order to solve their problems. Technology plays a massive impact in the lives of everyone. Almost all individual nowadays is really dependent on the rapid evolution of the technology. We cannot hide the fact that we are always into the emerging products of technology. Only the technology can binds us, whether you are miles away from each other or even just meters away from each other. Technology is everywhere.

In the three hours lecture, Our facilitator shared how technopreneurship was brought in Davao City. How he and his colleague started it. As what I have remembered, he and his colleague were given an offer to have a seminar about technopreneurship outside of the country, somewhere in Australia, for two years. Considering the distance apart, the years, they doubted about the offer. But, they gave a contrary offering to the ones who wanted them to be in there. Instead of the two of them going to Australia, why not send some technopreneurs from Australia in Davao City and teach the people who are willing to learn technopreneurship. And that is where it all started.

They have invited some names in Davao City that was already involved in the technological part of the city, deans of different colleges as well as the local organizations in the city that is also involved in the IT world. Well, not just only in the city but also in the entire region 11 so that the neighboring provinces will be able also to learn from the two Australian technopreneurs who will conduct a seminar about technopreneurship. With that gathering, they had meetings, lecturing and monitoring sessions about technopreneurship. Sir Randy and his team thought of making technopreneurship as one of the subject for the IT course. They had brainstorm sessions in order to make the course outline and what it is really all about. How can this course be an agent to the fast growing economy of the city. And then, Our facilitator and his colleagues made this Technopreneurship subject as one of the subjects of the IT course and with the approval of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) it has been implanted and now I am currently enrolled into this subject as of now. Their advocacy of making technopreneurship as one of the subjects is that the youth, in the first place, should be prepared of what is waiting for them in the near future especially the youth who are enrolled in IT courses or IT related courses. Since, the world has this fast changing environment, rapid change on trends, they must atleast have the ideas in their minds when they are young so that in the near future, if their ideas will implanted and comes into a reality then it can and it will help the society they are belong to .I really liked their advocacy because they are not doing it for the betterment of their selves but they want to help their society, as well as their countrymen. This kind of advocacy creating a way to make changes in the technology we had experience because through technopreneurship, we can think innovative ideas and we can share our innovations that will surely benefit the people and also, we could earn money.

Different schools have implemented this subject and included this on their course prospectus. Even others had their incubation hubs to support the ideas or the capstone projects that was made from the ideas of the IT graduates in every institution in the city. According to Our facilitator, Brokenshire College was one of those schools who had their incubation hubs. An Incubation hub is a place where a graduate can make his ideas into a reality. The resources are given just to support them all the way to make their capstone project a reality. For them to commercialized it also in the market.

Moving on, Sir Randy also shared about the “Rationale of Technopreneurship – Davao Academe Perspective”. It is a slide where there were outlines about how the perspective of the IT educators in Davao City regarding the IT education not only in the city but nationwide. They wanted to make a big impact and change the mindset of every student, a student of IT or not. Putting up Technopreneurship as a subject in every IT curriculum in Davao City could make the graduates come into a decision to chase their technology-based business plans and strategies as a start-up in technology incubators and they will be able to channel their inner business side. With this, venture capitalists will invest in their feasible high technology products. The start-ups they had created will be established into constant and firm IT enterprises and in the long run, it will locate them in IT parks. I really like this kind of idea having technopreneurship as a part of IT curriculum because nowadays IT enterprises compete and participate in the domestic and global market and impel the growth of economy in the local area. It is so nice to know that our local IT industry blooms and it catches the attention of more locators and shareholders.

As I was able to absorb of what our facilitator was saying, all I think was how awesome Our facilitator and his colleagues are. They have thought of a possible solution that can help to make Davao City one of the best cities. They have thought of a solution that can make the economy here in Davao progress like in the Metro. They have of a solution that can make Davao a center of IT education in the Philippines. Slowly but surely, their dreams are coming true. They have not only contributed to the progress of Davao City, they have also contributed to the success of their students. Although they are not that “powerful” people in Davao City, however they used their knowledge wisely and effectively to make changes in Davao City in terms of the things that involves in IT industry. They are influential enough and brilliant minded people that they were able to get the trust of the people behind these good schools and universities and organizations not only in Davao City but also in the region 11 to support them in their advocacy. Like what our facilitator said that he is not teaching us, he is neither our teacher nor instructor. On what he is doing every time in our class is just like storytelling, he shares his experiences in his life and from that experiences of him we got to take a lesson, not just how to be a person who has a good character but also on how to be a person who stands up with his decision and to be a person who is wise enough to make a way making his dreams do come true. They want us also to learn and to be wise. For him, what it takes to be a great person is to have a great attitude. Not just towards the others but also to yourself. It is nonsense if you don’t have a good attitude to act. Our attitude will reflect on who we really are. Our facilitator taught us also to dream high. Not to be contented as an employee but we should aim to be an employer. Not to limit our selves and be open minded on everything; thinking the advantages and disadvantages of doing such things. To go beyond the boundaries and explore new ideas that could help us in producing innovative ideas soon. Although, he always required us to make this very long reflections, I know that someday doing these very long reflections can help me also.

Which I like least?

Our life in the future lies in our mindset today. We have so many life goals being listed on a sheet of paper saying that one day I will be able to this and that and so on and so forth. People may have different mindset but one thing is for sure, we all have the same goals. To be successful, check. To be able to help our families, check. To be able to make our dreams come true, check. But, the question is can all of these happen?

Throughout the three hour class discussions, there were many things that were introduced to us, especially to myself that has never been introduced since I existed in this earth. Though, all of the topics that have been discussed were likely likeable. I have to choose some of them that at least I like the least so that I can be able to write a reflection about it.

During the three hour class discussion and many were mentioned, many things have been tackled, many things have been talked about, what really caught my attention was the topic about the mindset of everyone who goes to school.  There were two mindsets that were introduced to us; the usual mindset and the alternative mindset. The usual mindset or also known as the employment mindset. The usual mindset is what have been every students practicing until these days. This is a never ending cycle. This kind of mindset has been passing through generations by generations. And until now, this has always been the mindset of every student. While on the other hand, the alternative mindset is a contrast to the usual mindset.

The usual mindset is the kind of mindset where students be like – “I go to school. I want to graduate. I want a high paying job.” The results of this mindset can be beneficial and can also be destructive depending on one’s point of view. In schools that are subscribe with this mindset, in their perspective, this is beneficial. Schools with this mindset just have the same perspective as with our parents who have this mindset. Parents will be proud of their children’s success as well as the school will take pride with their best graduates that sought after by companies, offering them some compensation. Education which was defined by Google is a systematic process through which a child or an adult acquires knowledge, experience, skill and sound attitude. It makes an individual civilized, refined, cultured and educated. For a civilized and socialized society, education is the only means. Its goal is to make an individual perfect. Every society gives importance to education because it is a panacea for all evils. It is the key to solve the various problems of life. For short education is the key to every ignorance of individual this is the solution to every confusion to every things. Along these lines on and onward, we all live up to expectations. The way these kids will think will influence their future. It is similar to the folks who had impacted the kid and encased his reasoning and sights to what the folks like their youngsters to be; to have work in a high salary company. This is the old personality set.

In contrary to the usual mindset, the alternative mindset have these following statements: "Go to school, get good grades, create and own a company", "Use your knowledge, skills, core values, creativity and passion to create and innovate through technology", "Contribute and be involved in the technological development of Davao".As we all know this mindset talks about Technopreneurship. This kind of mindset leads to the following benefits. Firstly, the graduates will remain in Davao to pursue their technology based business plans as their start-up in technology business incubators. The venture capitalists will invest in their high technology products, this is a great help especially when you don’t have enough money for the investment. The start-ups mature into stable IT enterprises and eventually locate in IT parks and buildings. We should know that we, the students, treated our school as our second home. This where our personality gets mold, and this where we usually learn through our experiences. We should always bear this in mind that we go to school not only to get the better things in life, but the best things in life anyone can receive or achieve. We must learn to aim higher. Let’s not stop on aiming to land a high paying job, we just have to keep aiming that someday somehow we will be able to name our own company. We will be able to cut the ribbon during the ribbon cutting because you have launched your newest product that can help the society. That can help the City. This kind of mindset is well made of the relation between realistic and reasonable technological ideas mixed with the business mindset of an individual. Everything started from scratch. Who knows when you have the greatest idea, maybe that one can be commercialized and that will serve as a stepping stone onto your next journey of your life being a successful technopreneur and or maybe with your idea you’ve got what it takes to be the game changer. There is as of now something that we need to do and achieve and to do that is to remain in our own particular and choose the things what we need to be. Emulating the option outlook can free us on the things that we do and arrive at what we need to achieve. Emulating our own particular objective may not lead us to the right way, yet the imperative thing that we learn is the things that show us on how life ought to be. Elective mentality taught us on how critical to make the best choice. Indeed thought we get some wrong choices in life however the vital thing to never forget is that encounter is the best instructor and it will help us to be an individual who knows how to remain by it and be free enough to face each trials and difficult times in life. It is not about on how great you are on different things however it is about your enthusiasm and the adoration you settle on in every choice we take. We ought not to restrict our psyche, our desires in ourselves and particularly in our capability to accomplish more than the basic. We ought to look past to make this come. In the event that we look in our surroundings, there are part of individuals; a youngster, adolescent, and grown-ups who are proficient to work. In this circumstance happening in our general public are getting greater and greater and we simply put aside this which we could have any kind of effect with that. In the event that all individuals think like an ambitious person they could assemble their diverse plans that might be set up as a business even a little one yet can help to bring home the bacon is all that could possibly be needed.

As the discussion gets deeper about these mindsets, I have thought of what mindset I have ever since I have started going to school. It was always been the usual mindset, or the employee mindset. And I just realized that having this kind of mindset is an immature of me thinking about my future as an employee not as employer. Though, it passed once in my mind the “what ifs”, what if I am an owner of a company, what if I am the boss. Too many what ifs in my mind but I always ended up to looking in my future as a servant of the one who’s at the top, serving someone who is my superior and calling someone boss.

The usual mindset is like a default setting to each and everyone.  A virus that will never be treated unless you get yourself treated by yourself also. “Go to school, get good grades, land in a high paying job”, that is what the goals of a person who has the usual mindset. Not just ourselves has this kind of mindset, our parents, the people who surrounds us also have this kind of mindset for us. They will send us to the school from nursery up to the highest level of schooling for us to work with high pay in the future. Since, they accepted the thought that having high evaluations will bring us from high-paying occupations. Including me. All I wanted after all these sleepless nights and cramming days of being at school for almost half of my life, all I wanted is to end up getting paid with a bigger amount that can satisfy my needs and my family needs, all I wanted is to have a job, that’s it. That’s what I want since I have learned how to read a b and c and learned how to count numbers 1,2, and 3. Ever since I have started school whenever I will encounter the question “why do want to go to school?”, I will always answer like this “I want to go to school because I wanted to graduate so that I will be able to have work and have huge amount of money and I will be able to help my parents and pay them from all their sacrifices.”. Childhood stage or even now that I am already a college student; this has always been my answer. Consistency, that’s what it is. Someone told me that after graduation mostly the first job you will get is not the job you really want but years after when you have enough money you can now change to the job you really want but this is the usual mindset or the default mindset of every person.

As for myself, if I am not enrolled into this subject and technopreneurship was not introduced to me, then I think I will still stick to this usual mindset. There is nothing being an employee after all. But what made me choose the alternative mindset between the two is that I will be able to showcase what is inside of me. This kind of mindset will challenge me not only just my thinking skills, my capacity towards handling some issues that may come but also the leadership that I think I do not contain inside of me. Since, I was really used to that someone is superior to me. How about      me being the superior to the others? Can I control them? Can I lead them well? That is the biggest question as of now.

It is not bad to have this usual mindset. What is bad is that you only limit yourself on becoming an employee, a slave of a superior. What is wrong in aiming to be the boss. Everyone wanted to have a better life that is why they will actually grab once the opportunity has come whether the lowest kind of job or the highest paid job nowadays. But, is that what all you’ve got? Why settle for less if you know you can have more? Why settle to be an employee if you can be an employer? It might take lots of time, sweats and blood but I think nothing that has been done with perseverance and hard work is not worth it. Being ambitious, motivated and inspired will help us reach the top. The people that surround us will help us in our sweetest downfall, they will be the ones who will lend their arms to help us stand again. There is nothing wrong in trying. If you failed, at least you have tried.

Truth to be told, I am still in doubt what really my mindset as of this moment is. I do not know, whether it is the alternative mindset or the usual mindset. I do not what is running in my mind right now. All I want to do is to finish this reflection and sleep. Kidding. I still do not to which kind of mindset I should possess. Though, I wanted to take and possess the alternative mindset, I am still in doubt of my capabilities as a person and as a human being. I do not know if I will be able to take a step higher than i thought, to be better than I thought. Even though this is just a mere preparation for me in the near future, I still do not see myself as a leader, a person who handles big roles in each life. I do not want to take risks that can affect my lifestyle if ever I will fail to make it through that risk. I do not dwell on my failures but sometimes I just can’t let it go immediately if I knew that I am reason why. Truth to be laid on this table having the usual mindset is inevitable. It is the kind of mindset that everyone grows up with. Even until now that the alternative mindset has been introduced to me, there is still a bit of the usual mindset that is in under my system. But, one thing is for sure, if I am going to follow the mindset ofa technopreneur possess, I am going to take them step by step. One step at a time.

“Always think outside the box”, “Always know that you have the capability of making impossible possible”, thoughts which I think are very useful in terms of thinking for better things which many people can benefit from. People only focuses on what they just see which I myself can relate. Things which we can just see or the things which we only see through our vision are only the things which we think are the only problem. But thinking way deeper to things we can think that there are many things which we should innovate and think for a better solution. Every problem has a corresponding solution and for every solution comes happiness, these are the things which I always keep in mind. The default mindset of everyone is not a bad thing but thinking for bigger possibilities the alternative mindset should be applied.

This is the part of the three hour discussion I least liked because of what it affected my mind and my imaginations. This is such an interesting part of the discussion because it made me think of it also of what I want to be in the future. If I want to be an employee or I want to be an employer. But before reaching those statures, I have to start from the bottom; I have to start from scratch because nothing successful started big. It will always be small. If only that the alternative mindset could be the default mindset then there is no worry then. But the two mindsets have their own advantages and disadvantages. I can’t say that right now because I am no place to state that because I am still a student who has a superior in me and I haven’t experience them paJ

Pirates of the Silicon valley

1. What are the factors that contributed to the success and failure of Steve Jobs as a technopreneur?
The movie, Pirates of the Silicon Valley, made a way for me to know better and to know more about who really is Steven Paul Jobs or the world renowned Steve Jobs. All along, I just knew him because he is the founder of Apple Inc., the great mind behind the manufacturer of all the Apple contraptions that almost all individual is utilizing nowadays. The story behind his success? I did not know neither any bit of it. I just know his name, that he is Steve Jobs. The mighty Steve Jobs.

As I go through with the movie, there are more than enough reasons that I can say that contributed on his success and his failures.  Maybe one of the prime keys to his success is his companion, who never left his side during his downfall, another Steve in his life, Steve Wozniak, his best bud, and other computer delights that helped them in creating and making their own company. Steve Wozniak, Steve Jobs’ best buddy, is the affable man who has witnessed the war between Steve Jobs and Bill Gates without getting wounded along the way. Steve’s persistence on what he is doing and his bravery contributed to where he was right now. They started at the bottom, and now they are on the top list of the companies that has helped the world to be more modernized. Steve does not settle for what is good. He wants the best of the best. He is really brilliant in making ideas, in expressing his thoughts on how and what it should be. Using his garage as a workplace? That was a great move by Steve Jobs because it shows that he is really willing to achieve his goals even though they will start from the beginning, from scratch. Though it was a bit difficult for him to create his dream company, it never became the reason for him to give up. The bank officers where he wanted to get a loan doubted him because he did not look like a business guy at the first place but however, they did not stop him from getting the loan. He pursued and he pursued until it happened. He was persistent. That’s it!

Brilliant is a true definition for the name Steve Jobs. He was really a brilliant. His brilliance really contributed a lot in the information and technology industry. Not only to that, but he also contributed to the business industry where he uses his ideas on the information and technology side and mixed with the businesses that really needed his ideas.  He was never afraid of being a failure; instead, he used his failed attempts to do much better. One of the things that maybe contributed to Steve Jobs’ success is also his looks. Well, that is the truth. Nowadays, people would gladly talk to a personnel who has good looks, pleasing personality and a dashing smile. It is plus factor for Steve Jobs’ that he got the looks which can attract customers. He used his looks to gain attention on the fair where his team was included. Steve Jobs’ on a dashing suite, a well shaved mustache and a huge grin on his face knowing that their booth was the only booth who has attracted a lot of customers. The way he talks to the public and presenting their product it his unique ability, but at their first try to gather some investors for their company he didn’t succeed in it. And he realized that the bankers and other people that allow you to loan money to build your own company don’t want to see this happy go lucky personality. Until a guy named Mike showed his appearance on Steve’s and the team’s workplace, at Steve’s garage, and told them that he wanted to invest in their company. It was so nice that the man, himself, has approached the team first. Maybe he saw that the company Jobs’ is starting to has the thing. He told Steve and his other co-workers that he wanted to invest to their company and Steve says that what they’re doing is more of this spiritual thing. From this I see that Steve does not want the money for success but he thinks how his company will change the world. He was seeing the future in his hands, in his own hands. He always dreamt that the time will come when this company will be one of those companies who can contribute to the fast changing environment of this world. Creating a product that was way different from the existing products. He always wanted to innovate those existing products to a more different, to a much more better than what any individual could have imagined. He always thinks that there is something worthwhile than those existing products. The best is yet to come. I really like the way he introduce a product of his because he is not just introducing the product by its specifications but he is introducing it like how much it will inspire people when they use it. He was imaginative, creative and of course he was a man who really wanted to take a lot of risks. He was very competitive and very risk taker human being. He is also a big risk taker, he makes Apple set this social currency that high and he wanted for Apple to stay on top of the social currency.

But then, human as we are Steve Jobs’ has failures too. Because of his brilliance caused him to be blinded; blinded in such a way, that he only craved on climbing the top and becoming the best. For me, Steve Jobs never took time to realize that there are so much more things to be seen. He was missing some important parts of his life. Throughout the movie, I noticed how Steve Jobs’ handle his anger. I thought that he has a lower dose of anger management, that he has the attitude. He cannot contain his feelings every time he was fuming mad. When he is upset, he releases his anger through his employees. He had that exchange of words with one of his employees. He even hurt one of his employees physically. He also has trust issues. He cannot trust an individual whole heartedly. He never opened his doors to the other people.

But, what really bothers me is that when his girlfriend told she was pregnant, he was denial. Really? How can he do that? He said in front of his girlfriend’s face that the baby in her stomach is not his child. I thought of him as a douche bag for that action. How can he deny that child? He has the money. He was stable. He was successful, very successful that he can give all the things when his child will be born. Then, it struck me that maybe he was not ready of being a father at all. He is now at the top and he does not want any interference that could brag his name down as well as his company. He has the world he has been dreaming of then suddenly it will be affected because of his child. He tried all his best to hide the child and the mother. Though, he had visited them the day the child was born, the child was named Lisa, and after that it took long years for him to visit them again. When he faced some legality issues on being the father of Lisa, it affected him.

Steve being successful brought him to his own pit. He became workaholic; he was obsessed with his work and his company. He wanted his employees to do the best of the best. He wanted them to channel their inner souls so that the best that he was trying to configure will go out and will make a new scare in the industry. This one also contributed on his failures. He wanted more and more from them. He even split his employees into two teams, the Mac people and the Apple II people. He made the two teams fight with each other, with their ideas. He was comparing the ideas of the two teams. During the launch of the Mac, he shows off that the people on the team Mac is the best people he has. How rude of him, right? The team should not be compared since the two teams have been doing their best for the sake of Apple, for the sake of Steve. Although his intention of making them into two teams was also for the sake of his employees, it is still not a great move to do by the CEO to compare the teams he made for the better progress of his company.

Steve is also a human who commits mistakes and in contrary, he is also a human who wanted to achieve his dreams. His failures in life have made him a better man that takes the full responsibilities of what he has been doing in his life. He fixed his problem with his child, Lisa, and created a family that will always be with him no matter what. His ideas has a big impact in this world nowadays, he changed the world into a more modernize. Even after his death, the contributions he made to this world will always be remembered and as well as his story.

2. How do you see yourself as a technopreneur?

The question was “How do I see myself as a technopreneur?”. Well, with all honesty, I still can’t think of any good answer to answer that question since I was still in doubt if I am going to be a technopreneur in four or five years time. I still have to pursue my studies and pass all my subjects including this Technopreneurship subject which I am currently enrolled to.  There are still lots of challenges that I might go through to finish this course and a couple of sleepless nights and series of brain drain cycles just to finish this line. According to some research that I have done through the internet, technopreneurship is a kind of business line where the business is relatively connected to the modern technology. To add some, technopreneurship comes from the combined word technology and entrepreneurship. Instead of being called as entrepreneur, a person who deals with this kind of business is called a technopreneur. A combination of these two words will come up to good and better outcomes. Technopreneur aims to provide the people with new and emerging new technology trends, sifting the hype into a business reality. You will get inside the track on all things that the technology will give a big impact on your business tremendously.

A technopreneur is an entrepreneur who is knowledgeable, creative, innovative, dynamic, dares to be different and take the unexplored path and very passionate about their work; which I think that these characteristics are not yet in my body. Too much characteristics eh? Well, these characteristics can be learned, maybe not now but one step at time then maybe when I got to develop my inner self then I can have the ability of becoming a technopreneur.

According to the characteristics above, a technopreneur should be knowledgeable. Being knowledgeable to all the changes in his surroundings because as we all know that the technology also depends on what the trends are.

Second characteristic is that a technopreneur should be creative. Since technopreneurs are involved with the technology, and the world has this fast changing environment, a technopreneur should be creative with his ideas on how he is going to help the society lessen the struggles. If I ask myself, am I creative enough to be a technopreneur? I will answer a big no. I have the ideas but these ideas running in my mind are not money worth it. Since technopreneurship is engaged in business, the ideas that a technopreneur should be creating are the ones which can be commercialized and be sold into the business world.

Being innovative is the third characteristic that a technopreneur should possess. Modern technology is the one who really rules the world now; almost every individual is now independent on the technology. Due to this fast changing and growing economy of the places around the world, people more often chose to what the thing or what is the trend that can make their life less complicated. There are existing thing now but in the future people will search more than that knowing that there is much better than the existing products. That is why being innovative is one of the founding characteristics that a technopreneur needs to possess.

There are still a lot of characteristics that a technopreneur should possess. Just like Steve Jobs’, he was a big risk taker, an opportunity grabber and he has the self esteem that no one can take away from him. Learning from Steve Jobs’ story of success, a successful man should never be afraid to take a lot of risks though you can have two different kinds of results to whatever the outcome maybe of you taking the risk. You may win, then it is a good sign that you were doing great in your field or maybe doing great that it can bring to a new you, a new perspective in life where you always wanted to go with. You may fail, but never dwell on your failures because being a failure is a normal case in an individual’s life. If you failed, there is no way of staying in that position but going up. Like Steve Jobs’ who his failures as his lessons so that he will be able t make through when the time come that he might go through with the same situation again.

I would to think that any of the characteristics above mentioned was not yet inside of me. I have this attitude that satisfies and contented of what I have achieve in my life. I do not make a way on how to improve more my achievements. I am also satisfied in my little on ways like making simple program or making a small system. Well, I can learn them little by little through my experiences and all in the real world. But can I really see myself being a technopreneur someday? My answer is why not? I am still a college student but the facilitators of this college I belong to are already training us to become a successful somebody in the near future. I may have different goals in my life but when the time comes and I have decided to channel the inner businesswoman in me, I would gladly mix my business with the technology. There is a lot of ways that the technology will be much better than now in a few years time.

As I stated above that a technopreneur should always think outside the box, that he should not limit himself in imagining things and creating ideas that may contribute to the society, I think I still do not have this kind of characteristic. There are instances in my life that I doubted my imagination. I only imagined them for fun. And sometimes, I even doubted myself because some people wwould like to encourage me that they say I can do this but I will only laugh at them because I am not confident enough to trust my capabalities. I am the kind of person who is already satisfied with the result of my hard work. If I get an ace, I’ll be happy. That’s it! I am the kind of person who thinks that it is okay then it is, I am this kind of person who likes to take a rest than take time to make things develop and way better than others. I am satisfied already with what I have achieved whether good or not so good, big or not.

But being a technopreneur is not that easy I think, you have to be updated of the current trends. Trends changes almost every day that is why they have to be more critical on thinking the possible products they will make because what if it is no longer the trend? Then, making those products which is already out in the market will be such a huge loss to the team. There are a lot of what ifs. But then, nothing will happen if you dwell in your what ifs, all you have to do is to try and if it does not click then you will always have another chance of making it better.

If ever I pursue of being a technopreneur someday, first things first, I will have to and must first change my attitude. I will try not to be satisfied of what was already being served in front of me, I will seek for better things. Well, not so much though. I will make myself be responsible enough to take greater responsibilities not only for myself but also the people who surrounds me. And lastly, I will improve and enhance and channel the inner businesswoman inside of me and will strive to create and imagine things like I wanted them to be. With this rapid evolution of technology, I must be always on the trend and know what the people want. And of course, becoming a successful individual you should love your passion. If ever, I’ll choose to be a technopreneur, then I should be ready to commit myself being technopreneur, I should never give in the middle of a chaos just because I am tired. I should commit myself in this hundred percent but not to the point where I’ll forget the things that really matters example family and friends. They are my support group and I can’t do all the things without their moral support and encouragements.

3. Would you take the same career path that Steve Jobs took? Why or why not?

Steven Paul jobs or the world renowned Steve Jobs is a very successful man, a very successful technopreneur who started from scratch, from the bottom and is now known to be the mind behind Apple Inc., the company who is also behind the modern technological products like iPhone which is utilize by almost every individual. He started from an idea, his company started on his garage; he started of having loans at the banks where he almost did not get the loan because the bankers doubted him as a business. But he proves it to himself that nothing can happen if he will only his dreams be dreams. He worked hard for it, he had failures on achieving it but it became a lesson for him not to give it up and continue to strive harder until his sacrifices have paid off. He is the man that proves his self to the world that nothing is impossible and proves also that he can do a small thing into real thing. This man is a great inventor which made him to be remarkable in the eye of everyone and well known in the whole world. He has also proven that all of his decision was right though he experiencing many failures in life which made him as one of the successful technopreneur and well known personality not only in the IT industry but also in the whole world that made him to the spotlight. He is a total game changer.

The question above says that “Would I take the same career path that Steve Jobs took? Why or why not?”. Who wouldn’t? Who wouldn’t want to take Jobs’ career path? Who wouldn’t want to be the next Steve Jobs? Who wouldn’t want to own their own company? Who wouldn’t want to be successful? No one would say no if there is a registration to make to take a career path just like Steve Jobs’ career. Me either, if I will be given any chance to take the same career path as Steve Jobs’ took, I will gladly accept it. But, there are lots of buts. Do I have the same determination as what Jobs’ has?

Steve Jobs’ has contributed a lot. Imagine the world without his inventions; Apple Incorporation would not exist today and the life of everybody will not be easier and would not be simpler. Out of Steve jobs creations, our life becomes easier, faster and simpler.  Steve Job’s career path was full of adventures and misadventures; even he does not know what to do, he still continually does the things for him that would serve his ambitions. He did not give up because he knew what is inside of his heart, his dream and his ambitions in his life.

Unhesitant, I will gladly take the same path as what Steve has taken. On the chance that I will be given the opportunity to have the same ability and capability, then why reject or neglect that chance if these characteristics that Steve Jobs’ has will help me mold the person I wanted myself to be in the next years and will help me to be one of the successful person in my chosen field. All things to be considered, everything relies upon the methods and techniques that I will be using and applying to make things right. I am right now in the world of where it really relies on the technology might as well say that I am also in the world where Steve Jobs’ world revolves. I maybe still an undergraduate but this is an open chance for me to know the basics and have knowledge on how the IT world really works. Business related or not, technology will be having its rapid modernization in years time. Being in this course have been an open door for me to realize of what I may become in the next years. Also, this has been the ultimate risk I will never forget. Though, I am so close on giving up, the thought “never give up” still lingers in my mind every time I wanted to quit and how Jobs’ never gave up on his dreams and made it into a reality, my mind can still picture it out.

Each one of us imagining about being wealthy, about being rich and about having those things that is costly, yet it is just a dream. Steve Jobs’ shows that without hard work and perseverance, nothing will happen. He also showed that you have to start small, have failures in life and gain back yourself in order to overcome the battles you might go through. Giving up on your dreams is not the solution also. You have to make your dream a reality.

Having the same characteristics that Steve Jobs’ has might help me to become the person I wanted myself to be. A successful career is very important to an individual. In what kind of career that I will be taking in the future and my future endeavors, I can encounter both achievements and disappointments. But the lessons I have learned on how Jobs’ handled this kind of situation he was into, that will be my motivation to held my chin up higher so that I will be able to compose myself again and will be ready to face the battles once more. His enthusiasm really interests me on how have overcome all those failures he had in his life though not all was shown in the movie.

As I would look back into the movie and somehow reviewed the story of Jobs’ success, I had put it on my mind that his success was not the easy one. He did not any lottery, he did not take any chances of winning some promos with a huge amount of prices instead he took the way where he knew that something good will make it through even though it takes little by little. Considering all his hardships, all his teams’ efforts just to make a change in this world. Making unique innovations on the things that existed just to make the people’s life way easier and better than anyone could have imagined. Without Jobs’ and his team, we might still stuck on an era where the technology is not that enhanced yet though we have this rapid evolution on the technology. There are numerous things to be considered in order to create a new product that will have a huge impact not only to the people, but only to the business world where the Apple Inc. is affiliated.

Taking the same career path that Jobs’ took or making your own career path of success is the same though. Both have their end games, both wanted to end up being successful.  No one wanted to be left when every people that surrounds you wants to be as successful as Steve. It was long way. It will always be a long way. A challenging one. A tough one. And all you need is to be brave enough. To be confident enough. To trust yourself. To pick the people whom you will trust. To be surrounded with the people who has the same dreams as you are. As in individual full of dreams, I dreamed of taking the same career path like Jobs. Who knows right? But, I should possess first his characteristics for me to be able to have the confidence in myself. Steve Jobs was a living proof that dreams do really come true when you have perseverance and you do it with all your heart and hard work.

But then, we still do not know what the future will be. I may want to be technopreneur but we don’t know if the tables will turn. I wanted to be successful like Jobs but on the profession I will choose. They say if you love your job, then you will never feel like you’re working on it, I don’t know the exact quote but it has the same thought though. Just like Jobs and yourself, you got to choose if you are going to take the same career path like Jobs or you have to make your own way to your success.  There is nothing wrong choosing the profession what have you wanted as long as you will value all the lessons you have learned. As long as you love your job, and you know you have fulfilled your dreams. As for myself, whatever profession I may take, a technopreneur or a work affiliated to my course, I will still apply the characteristics that I have learned in watching the movie that shows how Steve Jobs’ got successful on the career path that he took. I will bear those lessons in my mind and his story so that if ever I will be able to face some tough challenges, I am confident that I can make it through just what Steve Jobs’ did.

Ten Rules for Success

1. Know that someone is better than you.
Everyone is capable of doing the things they really like do. It will take lots of courage and a pure determination to accomplish one goal. But then, there are lots of people who will always be better than you are. However, never let them be the reason for you to do the impossible. Don’t give up on the things you wanted to do. Make yourself believe that you can do the impossible because of the determination and faith you have in yourself.

2.Go beyond your comfort zone.

Do not limit yourself to what you only knew. Go beyond your limitations and do the things you wanted to achieve as a person. Do not be afraid to take risks because sometimes taking risks have the best results at the end of the day. If you are afraid to take the risks, ask yourself “why have you started this?”, and then when you’ve found the reason why, continue to pursue your goals. Nothing will happen if you only stick to your limits. Have fun and enjoy the risks that you are going to take, you may fall but in the end you have to stand up and fix yourself for another battle ahead.

3. Be ready for the outcomes.

There are always two sides of a coin. Same with will are the results of what you are going to accomplish. If you won, then be grateful. If you get rejected, in that case it is an experience that you have to accept and then move on. Accept your defeat and never blame yourself nor blame others for being a failure because there is always a room for improvements. Find the mistakes on your first attempt; realize why it needs to happen and develop it making it sure that it is way better than your first shot.

4. Be surrounded with good people.

One of the factors why someone who is successful remains his feet on the ground is the people that are surrounding him. Choose the right support group for yourself. Be with the kind of people that has humility even though they are soaring up so high.

5. Be passionate with your passion.

Find something you love and enjoy, then ready yourself for you to commit to it.

6. When there is a minor setback, there will be always a major comeback.

Never ever let the setbacks that are coming in your life make you look so down in the dumps. Every setback that you may encounter may cause some damage in you but these setbacks can make you more spirited enough to have a better and create more ideas than  your first shot.

7. Have faith and be grateful, always.

For every success and achievement, always give thanks to the Man above. For he have given you the enough strength and determination. Be grateful for the all the things that comes to your life because it is His blessings.

8. Do not let your dreams be dreams.

Each individual has a lot of dreams. But you should work on your dreams for it to become a reality. Your attempt may fail but never fail to make an attempt to make your dreams do come true.

9. Never give up.

The temptation of giving up is a common one, and nobody is exempted. When you are so close of giving up, try to go back to the time when you decided to do this. Why, what and how you did come up to the decision why have you decided to do this and that. Put in your mind that giving up should never and must never be an option in you.

10. Always keep your feet on the ground.

Never let success or your achievements gets on your head. At all times, remember all the struggles you have encountered to make your dreams came true and make them the reasons why you have the humility inside you. Also, have a good character towards other people that you will be able to meet.

Dado Banatao's Life Story Reflection

According to the great film producer, Walt Disney, “A person should set his goals as early as he can and devote all his energy and talent to getting there. With enough effort, he may achieve it. Or he may find something that is even more rewarding. But in the end, no matter that the outcome, he will know he has been alive.” This states that a person should have a goal in his life once he was able to walk on his own. He can have all the time from his young age to a slowly but surely way of achieving his dreams, continuing on his young adolescent days where he is now mature enough to handle some problems, circumstances and troubles that he may be able to go through while on his way to success. There may be a lot of struggles that an individual may encounter during the times he was achieving his goals, in the end it will all be worth it knowing that you give your best shot and you already have received the fruits of all the sweats you showered for the goals you also wanted.

Life is like a roller coaster ride. Sometimes you are on the highest point, sometimes you are on its lowest point. There are a lot of twists and loops that the ride must go through but in the end we have to survive to be able to ride on to the next ride you wanted to try. In relevance to the statement above, it states that life is really unpredictable. You do not know what will happen next to you, to your friends or even your enemies. You have to strive hard and work hard for you to end chapter and start to open yourself again for another opportunities that may come.

“There are no classes in life for beginners; right away you are always asked to deal what is most difficult.” – Rainer Maria Rilke. Life is a never ending adventure.

Born in a province where modernization was not that developed, where there is no electricity supply a place that is fairly quiet and sparsely populated of course because the farm is next to the community itself, and so there are not a lot of resources, and with less fortune, Dado Banatao never made that a reason for him not to attain his goals in life.  There are many life struggles he get ahead of because of his determination and willingness to lift their family status. Growing up in a rural place in the Philippines, he experienced the times when technology is not that mainstream yet, he experienced the things that a family in a rural place experiences too. He also experienced of being taught of Mathematics with just the use of the bamboo sticks and moving them towards what problem was stated. However, he still continued to soar up to his limit and finally he has achieved the goal he always dreamt of.

Learning does not only need to be taught in school. You can look for alternatives to use for someone to learn something. Just like how Dado learns the basic mathematics via bamboo sticks. This only means that there are no boundaries or restrictions when you are eager enough to learn. If you are very much willing to learn you have to look for other ways of learning because learning is not only taught inside the four corners of a classroom. Using some things as teaching materials can help and also the experience that you are going to look forward that will be treasured by yourself. I remembered when the time I first stoop my feet inside a classroom, it was like a huge playroom for me. There were a lot of stuffs that I can play with and some playmates I had to bond with. Comparing my childhood days to Dado and his childhood friends, I was lucky enough to experience a better way of living since my childhood.

Like dado, I also used to live in a place like his hometown. A place where you can only see the wide rice fields and many animals that are working with their owners. But unlike him, I did not grew up there, I only spent a couple of months because that was vacation time. But, you can reallt feel the difference between the city, where almost all of the people is using technology based devices, and in the provinces, where almost all the people have to do all the things with the use of the basics.
Being in a rural place is not that easy because you have to strive hard for your daily expenses. Unlike in the cities, living in a province, where industrialization is not that well-run, was kind of a challenging thing because you have to put all the efforts you needed in order for you to have daily supplies you needed and your family needed especially when you are living where people only knows to plow their rice fields, and take care of the carabaos they own. Though, living in a rural place is considered as a sweet escape and a relief to the busy and fast changing environment compared to the cities because you have the chance of breathing the fresh air and have a look on how beautiful the creations were made that in the city, somehow, does not have because of the modern technology that is being used and implemented wherever you go. You can see the people that they are striving hard under the sun, though you can feel the tiredness in their body, they still put smiles on their faces saying that everything is alright and they are happy.

Dado said that after sixth grade his classmates and some batch mates have to stop from attending school because they need to pay their attention on helping their parents on the field works and or because their parents can no longer be able to support them with their education. But his father never wanted him to stop his education, his father never wanted him to be one of those kids who plows their rice fields and gave up their dreams. “He wanted a better life for me.” this statement was acknowledged by Dado saying that his father wants a better future for him that even though his father have to leave and work abroad just to support his educational needs. Leaving him and his mother, who is a full time housekeeper, his father worked in Guam as an Overseas Filipino Worker to provide the foods they needed and have sufficient income for them. Sad truth but I agree with what Dado has said, there are kids who wanted to attain education and pursue their goals but because of poverty they need to stop and surrender their dreams. While on the other hand, some kids who are lucky enough because of they have the things those kids who are in need doesn’t have, they will just throw all the chances that were given to them. They cut class, puts their selves on vices, got addicted on illegal drugs and some even got pregnant at a young age. These kinds of kids did not know that there is someone out there in the province would really love to go to school, would really wanted to finish studies in order for them to help their parents and make their living status better than what they are experiencing, but they, who had all the chances to go school, would just throw it all the way because they are yolo-ing.

Our parents only wanted the best for us. The educational, financial, shelter, support and emotional needs we require, they have given their all for us to have all of these. They have to sacrifice their allotted budget for them because they want to give us more and the best thing. All the bloods and sweats they have showered just to give their children the best thing in this world. The only way of giving them back is to know that you can now take care of yourself and have the life they always wanted you to have and happy and contented enough. But, as their children, nothing can be more precious than you, yourself, is taking care of them when the time comes that they needed you especially when they are old enough to take of themselves.

Dado’s father gladly took the risk of leaving them because of what he wanted for Dado in the future. Being separated by miles and the time difference is really hard and difficult for someone who is so attached to his family yet he has to leave because there is no sufficient and enough works to be given to the people who are less fortunate that are willing to work here in the country. I merely admire how Dado keeps on being encouraged to achieve his goals even though his father has to leave for his educational sake and for their living sake. Dado and I have the same situation in case of our father, though my papa is only here in the country but he is miles away from our home. Due to his work, my father was assigned in Samar as a member of the Philippine Army. He only gets home for at least thrice a month or have an emergency break whenever there are special occasions. Being away from him was once a problem to our family since my mom was the only one who supervises us. Though, my father always calls us every day it was still not enough. We can feel the longing of having a father inside our house. If I feel that way that my father was only a few miles away from us, how about what Dado feels about his father being away from them, not just miles away, but his father was a country away from them?

He graduated elementary and took his secondary education at the Jesuit run Ateneo de Tuguegarao which is away from his home. Like the adolescent stage, mingling with the city kids is kind of awkward when you are a kid from the province. You can really differentiate how the two types of kids differ from each other. The way they walk, talk and think. How classy their things are, and how classy those cars who pick them up from school.

I, too, can feel how hard it is to be away from home because I am also kilometers away from our home now for the reason that we need to go beyond our comfort zone and have the courage to study and learn something independently far. Though, the situation is hard since we can not have the presence of our family when we needed them the most but we know that they are supporting us and we got their back always. You only have few chances of visiting them in the province and have a catch time because it takes time to travel and the class schedule is also a factor. There are a lot of temptations that may tempt you, loud and clear the people were not the same as what you used to bond with back in the province and the fast changing environment because of the how industrialized the city places are. But then, it takes of a lot of determination and guts to study far from home and also the worth of trust your parents have given you. In the end, all you wanted to do is to pay them back for all the sacrifices they have made and make your life a successful one.

School is like a home. This is where you spent almost half of your life and your hour for a day. You got to meet the friends you have to keep for the rest of your life; the people who is going to be with you through tears and smiles, excluding your parents. This is where your parents feel that you are secured and you are learning also. Memories of me inside the school, elementary and high school, are one of the things I would really love to share. Elementary day were the days where I used to laugh out loud and play all day long without restrictions from my mom. When in high school, I met the people I would really love to keep for the rest of my life. They have been with me four almost five years and the bond was really made that strong that we could feel we are sisters and brothers at heart. Compared to experiences during my lower grade years, I wondered if Dado has ever enjoyed his high school years where he was only focuses on studying.

Dado trade his leisure time with studying. He focused on studying things and keeps on learning to the things he wanted to learn. He took up Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and graduated as a cum laude in Mapua Institute of Technology. Slowly, he is unfolding his wings and he was soaring high, but unfortunately there are no jobs that suited him in the country, no design jobs for the engineers. So he decided to leave the Philippines. He took the risk on leaving the country and look for some opportunity that he might grab to make his decision of leaving the country all worth it. And he did! He had his masters on the prestigious university, Standford University. He was intimidated to the people over there and thought that they were smarter than him so he doubled his study time.

One problem here in the Philippines is lack of employment jobs. There are lots of graduates with or without flying colors but they have no jobs. It is so difficult to find regular jobs in the country because these graduates are clashing to get a certain job and because our country is lacking of jobs even though they say that the Philippines has a fast growing economy. Others have decided to leave the country and work on other countries rather than staying here in the Philippines with got nothing to do and waste the lessons they learned in school because they did not get any job. If ever I will graduate and the employment here in the Philippines will not progress, maybe I will consider of leaving the country also.

His journey says it all that each individual should not be afraid to grab some opportunities that are coming along the way. Go beyond your limitations and achieve what you wanted to achieve as a person, as an individual, as a dreamer. Do not hide yourself in your comfort zone. In order to gain something better and maybe the best, you have to know that you are capable of doing the impossible; you have to take risks and have the perseverance and determination in order to achieve the goals and dream you have always wanted to have; you have to trust yourself that you can do it even though everyone that surrounds you looks better and best than you.

“Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.”  –Robert Frost

“I think I did well in engineering, but I was so bored. I was only 20 years old when I graduated from their 5-year program, so I guess at that age I wasn’t happy with what jobs were being offered,” Banatao said. “I was looking for something exciting and Philippine Airlines (PAL) was looking for pilot trainees, so I applied, abroad.was accepted and started flying.” He was an electronics engineering graduate, a cum laude in fact, but then he chose to be a trainee of the Philippine Airlines. Other than that, he also declines some job offerings. But someone had recruited him to be one of the design engineer but he have to leave and work. After Philippine Airlines he was then hired by Boeing as a design engineer in the 1960s. Later that decade, he landed on American soil like many other Filipino professionals. He landed jobs with different technology-based companies including National Conductor, Intersil and Commodore International.

He grabbed the opportunity that was given to him to be design engineer and he was able to design a chip and he also started to create a company, his startup company. But then, it failed. Another chapter of his life was closed. He accepted his defeat and moved on to the next chapter of his life. However, it never became a reason for him to stop pursuing his dreams. With relevance to Jack Ma’s 10 rules for Success, rules #2 and #9 which states that “Keep your dream alive” and “Don’t complain. Look for opportunities.” consecutively; Dado never let his dream go down even though he failed and some people told him that he cannot do it but he, himself, keeps on motivating himself that he could do it and so he did. Also, he never complained why his startup company did not accomplish instead it failed; he took some risks again and grab some opportunities that is coming along his way to his success. Never be afraid to take risks for in the end, maybe it will give you something bigger. Quoting another quote from Henry Ford, he says “Failure is an opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.”, thus Dado continued to seek after his dreams and tried to make another company and even better company. When I was younger I also experienced some failures in my life. I failed to keep my parents’ trust because I got addicted once to computer games. I ditched classes, and spent my allowance on computer games, stayed at the computer hubs. I failed not only my parents, the people who trusted me but also myself. I blamed myself for being not responsible to the things that I have done. But, I did not dwell on my failure; instead I gained again the trust of my parents and stated to be responsible on my actions. I even made a promise to myself that I won’t break my parents trust again. And so I did!

He started inventing and pioneered some of the things that is much needed by now. He was called an inventor but he stops those people who called him an inventor and where he once said “Innovation is more important because innovation implies you are putting together a whole bunch of other elements beyond that one invention. Innovation implies industry,”.

He was an opportunity seeker and grabber. He knew he can do it then he grabbed it. Only means that a before how successful Dado was, he was once the kind of person who looks for the opportunities along the way. The thought that he was willing to send is that never give up on finding opportunities. Giving up should not be enlisted as one of your options. Your attempt may fail, but never fail to attempt. This may or may not be the best for you but then at least you have tried to do your best. If you achieved, then it is a blessing. If you failed, then it is an experience. Nothing is wrong on trying, because when you knew you tried, you will find your strengths and your weaknesses. And most importantly, you will be able to find where is the spot you need to develop for the reason that there are lots of rooms for improvement. Way back in high school, I and my team were given a chance to create a food business. Though, it was still an idea, we have this courage that we will be able to make this and soon launch our business. We took every opportunity that comes along our way, from the stall, to the equipments needed and even the ingredients that were needed for us to start the business. We talked to some business people in our province, but things happened and it came worse when we failed to launch our business. It was a major turn off for the whole team to have business, someday. However, it is in the past and I think that it was lesson for all of us that we should never be contented of what we have but always try to persevere more so that in the end it will be a successful one.

Dado is now a successful man and as a matter of fact he was considered as the “Bill Gates of the Philippines”, the monicker that really suits him since both came up from a technical background, introduced technologies that transformed the computer industry, and built large successful companies from the ground up. He is one of the people who created the PC chipset which can be found inside the PC. Besides from being successful, Dado never forgets to where he came from. “My success is a direct result of my beginnings.” he said.  He still has the concern of how a fast changing environment and how fast growing our economy is. He also thinks of the people that is still suffering from poverty and who is still experiencing the experienced he had years way back. He still looks back at his roots and all his experiences from the past that motivates him to be successful now. He never forgets about his country which he thinks that is now one of the fastest growing economies in Asian Region.

Being humble out of his success is what makes Dado Banatao a great man. He never forgets his country and even started a foundation here in the Philippines, the PhilDev Foundation or the Philippine Development Foundation, where he is the chairman, which helps the students who deserve to be given the kind of education; that they will never stop learning and achieving their dreams. The thought that there is still 30% of the total population of the Philippines still suffers from poverty, and still experiences the things Dado experienced way back then. He gave those deserving students the scholarships they needed. All Dado wants is that these students who had scholarships in his foundation, will soon make some companies that will be able to create more jobs for all the Filipinos. He is helping send brilliant young Filipinos to school to help them reach their full potential. In his little ways, Dado is slowly helping the Filipino community to arise from poverty. And he started it from the youth.

Throughout the video, the life story of Dado Banatao has given me lessons that I will try to keep within myself. Determination and hard work. These are the few lessons that his life story has given me. Dado Banatao never gave up on his dreams. He has this determination inside of him that no one can be able to lose it from him. He pursued and pursued until he becomes successful. They were people who discouraged him but he still believed in his self that he can do it. With that, I realized one thing, never give up even though someone is putting you down. People who try to bring you down are inevitable. It may be one of your closest friends, may be one of your circle of friends or even then one who you truly trusted. Those people who tries to bring you down has nothing to do with your life, they will leave once they are fulfilled with their personal goals towards you. You just got to go with the flow and enjoy life until you reach your goals.

He was motivated and determined to accomplish the things he want. He took a lot of risks. Grabbed some opportunities. Got rejected but then he stood up, picked the pieces of himself then continued on pursuing his goals. This also taught me that an individual should never be limited of his resources. Continue to find chances, opportunities that you think that can help you in achieving your personal goals in life. Never be afraid to take risks because in the end, maybe the risk you have taken may lead you to a better future.

Dado believes that every Filipino has the potential. The potential of creating and managing their own business the potential of being the boss. He even said that his story should be the story of all the Filipinos. His story was kind of amazing of how a simple boy who lived in a rural province made his way to success and is now considered as one of the pillars of the how the PC works today. But the sad truth is some of the Filipinos aim to be an employee only not to be the employer. This was the biggest mistake that a Filipino mind has. We go to school, we keep on learning, we keep on studying from midnight to dawn, but in the end we ended up as an employee of a company. We never thought of being the employer, of being the owner of a company because maybe it already is in our my mind that as long as we will receive money, as long as we will be able to provide our family of what they need, it is enough. But no it is not, according to Banatao, everybody and every individual has the potential of becoming like him. You just have to have the full determination and faith in yourself that you will be able to achieve all of the things you wanted. Slowly but surely it might happen. In the end, it will bear fruit. You just have to wait until the time comes. Keep on dreaming big dreams.

Dado stated that he is not special. He may not be, but for me he is. His story is very special. It sends message that if you work hard on your dreams; someday somehow it will bear the fruit you want. With the combination of hard work, determination and perseverance, anything can happen. Even if you started from the bottom, you got to go with the flow to be at the top. If I will be able to put all the lessons I have learned when I watched his story and executes it in the real life, then I think I can be able to build my own dreams too. However, I still have many more challenges to go through to not to be as successful as Dado Banatao is but somehow successful in the field I will be choosing in my future endeavors. According to him there is a possibility that an individual can be like him, if only he has the determination and skills and faith and perseverance Dado has.

With is life story being shared to his video, you can really feel how helpful the determination is. Being determined on finishing studies. Being determined of achieving life goals. And being determined to help your parents to lift your family status. It was a tough battle for Dado Banatao before he became filthy rich and gave his family now a better and bright future. Lucky enough, his kids will never experience the things Dado had experience when has a little child. A Triumphant battle that he made through the years with insistence, determination and faith. He may have fallen many times, but he never gave up. He stood up and pick up the shattered pieces of himself, in front of those people who did not believe in his ability, skills, and talent, he made it through. He became successful! But what is more important is that he never forgot to look where he came from, to look back to his roots.

He help the young and deserving students to be able to express their ideas and pursue their dreams without and with no one who will make them stop from entering school because they need to stop schooling because their parents can no longer afford of bring them to a school.

What is more of Dado Banatao that something could be proud of is that he really knows the importance of family. He maybe successful, filthy rich, name it he has it all. He took risks. But one thing is for sure, he always think that the family he created should be as close as what he had when has younger. He made sure that not because of his business, he will make his family broken. He said, What good is it if I’m a successful engineer or investor if my family life is broken?

Dream big. Nothing will be lost if you dream big. Following your dreams opens your heart allowing God to enter and fill you with bliss. Your dreams will be your life’s guidelines in achieving your goals in life. But remember to never let  your dreams be dreams, work on it until it comes true because as what people are saying “dreams do come true”. If those non-singers can sing and have their albums sld, you as an individual dreamer can make that also. Not in having albums but reaching your dreams in a way that you know you have given your best.  Your attempt may fail but never fail to make an attempt because you never know that your attempt will be the way, the entry, and the opening door for you in achieving your goals. If you achieved it on the first try, then it is a blessing. If you fail, then it is a lesson and you have to fix yourself and pick up yourself and try to search for the mistake on your last attempt. Make rooms for improvements. But never ever forget that once you are at the top, it takes humility and good character to make you stay on it.

"We know hardship, it’s time we learn success. I am not so special, but I am determined. My story could be your story, as Filipinos it must be our story." - Dado Banatao

“What I do now has to continue. I don’t think we ever retire, we just move on from one task to another.”- Dado Banatao
